New Delhi, April 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed more than 20,000 swachhagrahis (ambassadors of cleanliness) at the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha in Bihar’s Motihari on Tuesday. Speaking at the event, PM Modi took a jibe at the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) government by saying,”High-speed electric locomotive project was approved in 2007 but the files gathered dust for eight years after the approval. Three years ago, the NDA government started work on it and now the first phase has also been completed.”
Hailing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the PM said it had changed the lives of crores of women in the country. “By building a toilet, a woman has found respect and safety.” (Narendra Modi in Bihar LIVE News And Updates)
Showering praise on the CM and Deputy CM, Modi said, “Pichle 100 varsh mein Bharat ki teen badi kasautiyon ke samay Bihar ne desh ko raasta dikhaya; jab desh ghulami ki zanjeeron mein jakda hua tha, to Bihar ne Gandhi ji ko Mahatma bana diya, bapu bana diya (In the last 100 years Bihar has shown the way the country on crucial moments. When the country was not independent, Bihar made Gandhi ji a Mahatma and Bapu),” said Modi.
Prime Minister Modi said the Centre and state government were working in tandem for Bihar’s development, “Whether it is the Swachhta mission, the fight against black money, or the development of facilities related to the general public, the Central government is shoulder-to-shoulder with Nitish Ji and his team. For the development of Bihar, the Centre and state government’s schemes and strategies complement each other.”
He also awarded ten Swachhagrahis who performed outstandingly in their villages, and congratulated the people, the ‘Swachhagrahis’ and the Bihar government for the construction of more than 8,50,000 toilets in the state in the past one week.
Speaking about Mahatma Gandhi, PM said ‘Bapu’ connected the country with Satyagraha. Terming the centenary celebration a new beginning, Modi said that the concept of ‘Satyagrah’ still lived in each ‘Swachhagrahi’ who were working to ensure a clean India. The Prime Minister stated that Mohandas became Mahatma after his Satyagraha in Bihar’s Champaran.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister flaged off Humsafar Express. The bi-weekly train will operate from Katihar on Monday and Thursday and from Delhi on Tuesdays and Fridays. The total time taken by the train from Katihar will be around 27 hours and 40 minutes. While from Delhi, it’ll take 27 hours and 30 minutes. The stoppage time for this train will be the longest at two stations, Saharsa and Lucknow stations, where the train will stop for at least 25 minutes each.
He also launched India’s first 12,000 horsepower electric locomotive from Bihar’s Madhepura. The high-speed locomotive train is the first big Make-in-India project completed by Alstom of France. PM Modi also unveiled several development projects like Motijheel Project, Bettiah Nagar Parishad water supply scheme under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), four sewerage projects aimed at creating a sewage-treatment capacity of 60 million litres daily for Patna,under Namami Gange, doubling of Railway lines between Muzaffarpur and Sagauli, and Sagauli and Valmikinagar with many more other projects.
