Pune, Feb 23: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Election Results 2017 will be declared today along with 9 other civic bodies in Maharashtra. Polling for the PMC Elections 2017 was held on February 21. Pune witnessed 55 per cent voting in the municipal corporation elections 2017. Counting of votes for the PMC Election Results 2017 will begin from 10 AM. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in power at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Since the PMC elections recorded just 55 per cent turnout, ruling NCP is hoping to regain power. In the PMC elections 2017, the NCP is facing tough challenge from Bharatiya Janata Party. As many as 1090 candidates from different parties are in fray for the 162 seats of the Pune Municipal Corporation. Major parties that are also taking part in the PMC elections 2017 are Congress, Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Besides, the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and several regional and local parties have put up candidates.
In the 2012 PMC elections, the NCP emerged as the largest party, winning 51 seats of the total 152 seats. While MNS got second position, bagging 29 seats, Congress won in 28 wards. The BJP captured 26 seats, while the Shiv Sena could in 15 seats. The BJP, which has made inroads in strongholds of the NCP in rural parts of Maharashtra, is posing serious threat to the NCP in the PMC elections 2017. While the Congress is likely to be decimated, the PMC election results will also be an acid test for Raj Thackeray’s MNS.
Alongside the PMC elections 2017, a number of other civic body polls are being held in Maharashtra including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and 6 others. Elections were also held for the 11 Zilla Parishads and 118 Panchayat Samitis. All the parties ran campaign relentlessly, hurling allegations against each other. The campaign saw the participation of union ministers for the BJP, top leaders like Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, former chief minister and Congress leader Ashok Chavan, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, SP leader Abu Asim Azmi and the Owaisi brothers.

NCP trailed at distant second with 40 seats. Shiv Sena and Congress could win 10 and 11 seats respectively. PMC Election Results 2017: As per the latest reports, the BJP is leading in 77 wards, while the NCP is ahead in 44 wards. Shiv Sena secured lead in 10 wards and Congress is at advantage in 16 wards. Six seats are going in favour of MNS.
