Malabo, Apr 8: President Ram Nath Kovind was conferred with the Condecoracion, the highest honour accorded to a non-citizen by the government of Equatorial Guinea on Sunday. He was bestowed with the medal of the Gran Colar de la Independencia by his counterpart Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, for his contribution to the cause of development, security and world peace.

In a bid to strengthen ties, agreements were signed between India and Equatorial Guinea in the presence of President Ram Nath Kovind and President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo today.

Addressing the event, President Kovind called for developing strong global response to fight against terrorism. “We expressed deep concern at the threat posed by terrorism to international peace and security and called for developing strong global response to fight this menace,” he said.

The President arrived at the capital of Equatorial Guinea as a part of his three-nation Africa tour earlier today. This is the first time ever that a head of state from India is visiting Equatorial Guinea.

Earlier today, President Kovind, accompanied by his wife and First Lady Savita Kovind, was received by Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
