President Ram Nath Kovind Says we Are Different, Yet One: Highlights of His First Speech After Taking Oath

New Delhi, July 25: President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said that while India has diverse cultures and people, the nation is one. In his speech after taking oath as the 14th President of India, Kovind said, “I am accepting this position with all humility and I am grateful for this responsibility.” Beginning his speech with paying tributes to the previous presidents, Kovind said, “I feel privileged to walk on the same path as Dr Radhakrishnan, Dr Abdul Kalam and Pranab da.”

Unity in Diversity

President Ram Nath Kovind, in his first speech, spoke about how India is united despite diverse people. “We are all different, yet we are one. And we will remain one,” Kovind said. He also added that the beauty of our country lies in people respecting each other’s point of views. “The beauty of a democracy lies in people respecting each others views,” he said. Kovind also invoked Deen Dayal Updahyay and Mahatma Gandhi, saying, “We will have to build society envisaged by Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Mahatma Gandhi: President Kovind.”

‘Every citizen is a nation builder’

Speaking of nation building during his address, Kovind said every citizen of the country was a nation builder. He spoke of how people belonging to different sects and different professions serve as nation builders. “Farmers are the nation builders. Our men who protect borders are nation builders. The youth who provides employment opportunities for jobless are nation builders,” Kovind said. He concluded by saying that the 21st century India will be a better India.

Just as Kovind took the oath of the 14th President of India, outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee’s tweets were archived from the official Twitter handle of the President of India and Ram Nath Kovind’s first tweet said, “Honoured to be sworn in as the 14th President of India; would be carrying out my responsibilities with all humility.” “I bow to the 125 crore citizens of this great nation and promise to stay true to the trust they have bestowed on me,” he added.
