Vadodara, Jan 24: A day after one person died due to suffocation at the Vadodara railway station during Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s promotional journey, the authorities have said that there were appropriate arrangements in place. Speaking to a news channel India Today, the Divisional Railway Manager of Vadodara District, Amit Kumar said that the prima facie report says that arrangements were in place.

“There was information that Shah Rukh Khan was travelling and arrangements were made accordingly. People, too, should have been responsible,” he said, adding that a detailed report on the incident was still awaited.

Meanwhile, Khan also reacted to the incident, calling it ‘unfortunate’. “He died after we left from Vadodara. It is really unfortunate,” he said speaking to India Today.

While speaking to ANI, he also added, “We wanted to cover all cities in a minimum time and so, I decided to travel by train. Also, I had not travelled in Indian Railways since long.”

On Monday night, one person, identified as Farid Khan Pathan, died due to suffocation at the Vadodara railway station as hundreds of fans of the actor rushed to catch a glimpse of their facvourite actor. Khan was on board the August Kranti Express to promote his upcoming film “Raees”.

According to police, Pathan, a resident of the Hatikhana area of Vadodara, arrived at the railway platform with his wife and daughter as the family was an avid follower of the actor. He felt suffocated during a stampede at the railway station and then suffered a heart attack.

Pathan died on his way to the hospital, the police said. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd during which some persons sustained minor injuries on their head and face. Two constables of the Railway police also collapsed during the chaos and are undergoing treatment. They are said to be out of danger.

Cricketers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan met Khan as the promotional team helped the cricketers get into the compartment to meet the actor. Khan is travelling with the film’s director Rahul Dholakia and producer Ritesh Sidhwani from Mumbai to Delhi on August Kranti Express to promote “Raees”, which hits the screens this week on January 25.
