New Delhi: Following Congress’ embarrassing poll debacle in 2017 Assembly elections, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda recently termed Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi as ‘Bhasmasura’ (a demon in Hindu mythology). On being asked about opposition’s plan to form an alliance to counter Bharatiya Janata Party, Gowda said,”Rahul Gandhi is like Bhasmasura. Those who go with him will be reduced to ashes. The JD(S) will face the same consequences if the party decides to join hands with the Congress leader in the coming days.”
Referring to the debacle of Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017, Gowda cited,“We have seen what happened to the coalition (Congress-SP) in Uttar Pradesh. Those who go with him will face the same consequences. The sinking Congress is desperately trying to hold on to whatever it gets. It appears that JD(S), too, wants it (alliance),” leading daily Deccan Herald quoted him saying.
The Congress won only seven of 105 seats it contested in alliance with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state that sends the largest number of MPs to Parliament.
On Monday, an engineering student Vishal Diwan, who hailed Madhya Pradesh proposed the name of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in Guinness Book of World Records for losing 27 elections in the country. As per the reports of Financial Express, Diwan requested the administration of Guinness Books of World Records to enlist the name of Rahul Gandhi for losing as many as 27 elections in the country. Diwan has also paid the enrollment fees for the same.
Yesterday, the Congress party had said that its central leadership will review party’s performance in the assembly polls and introspect on reasons for the party’s defeat in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A few days back, Rahul Gandhi went abroad to join his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi, who is outside the country for the health checkup.
