Under him, the Congress is resolutely contesting the autocratic BJP government as a strong opposition party,” said RPCC chief Sachin Pilot.

He added that it was an honour for the party that Rahul Gandhi was made Congress vice-president during the party’s ‘Chintan Shivir’ held in Jaipur. “We now want him to accept the Congress president’s post,” Pilot said.

The Congress has also assured the Election Commission that it would complete the internal election process before December.

Sonia Gandhi was elected as the President of the Congress party in 2010. It is supposed to hold elections every three years, but it last held an internal election in 2010. Sonia Gandhi has been the President since then when she was elected the fourth time.
