New Delhi, September 16: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi goofed up again when he condoled Marshal Arjan Singh’s demise on Saturday, calling him an Air Marshal. It is a big error on Rahul’s part as Air Marshal is a three-star rank, whereas marshal is a five-star rank. There has been only one marshal in the Indian Air Force: Arjan Singh.

Rahul wrote on Twitter: “A soldier & diplomat power excellence. Air Marshal Arjan Singh demise is an irreparable loss. India has lost a true hero. Deppeset condolences (sic).”

Notably, the spelling for ‘deepest’ is also wrong; he wrote ‘deppeset’ instead.

This is the second mistake in a couple of weeks for Rahul Gandhi. He had said recently that the number of MPs in Lok Sabha was 546, instead of 545. He was addressing the students at the University of California, Berkley. In the same event, he had also defended dynasty politics in India.

Marshal Arjan Singh died after suffering a cardiac arrest. Marshal Singh was the only five-star officer in the Indian Air Force and among the only three five-star officers ever. Before him, Sam Manekshaw and Cariappa rose to the rank of a five-star officer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and many political leaders condoled the death of the war hero.
