New Delhi, August 13: Calling the Gorakhpur children tragedy ‘cold-blooded murder’, Congress’s Raj Babbar on Sunday sought the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Babbar also said that the Government must pay the victims’ kin Rs 1 crore as compensation. He further said that his party will launch a protest regarding the mismanagement of hospital services.
Babbar while speaking to the media said lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state administration and demanded Rs 1 crore for the families of the victims as compensation. He called the deaths, “nothing less than cold-blooded murder.”
The UP Congress chief also rapped Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh over Singh’s ‘August-death’ comment. The Health Minister, while taking immediate action against the BRD Medical College Principal, said that ‘children die every August’, which angered many. This also irked Babbar who said the state health minister should disassociate himself from late Lal Bahadur Shastri, who is his grandfather.
Raj Babbar also lashed out at the Yogi administration and called the chief minister ‘inexperienced’ and ‘incompetent’. Taking his claims a notch higher, Babbar also demanded the resignation of Yogi Adityanath. He said the CM ‘must be dismissed’ or ‘made to resign’. He took a jibe at Adityanath and said if ‘he (CM) cannot take care of a hospital right under his nose, how can he take care of Uttar Pradesh’.
In the same note, CPI(M) chief Sitaram Yechury called the tragedy an act of criminal negligence and sought action against those responsible. Speaking to news agency ANI, Yechury said, “Criminal negligence. Sixty-three children died due to lack of oxygen. People must be made accountable.”
