Jaipur, Apr 12: At least 12 people have died in Rajasthan after heavy rains along with strong winds hit several regions in the state on Wednesday evening. While seven people died in Dholpur, five were reported to have died in Bharatpur after a rainstorm hit the region. Train movement was also affected on Agra-Dholpur line due to the rainstorm. Waterlogging was also reported in the Dholpur region as rains lashed the area.
Meanwhile, heavy rains also lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh. Hailstorm in Mathura resulted in damage to the crops in Nandgaon, Vrindavan, Kosi Kalan areas. Farmers agitated on the Mathura express highway after their crops were damaged due to the hailstorm. “There is nothing left now, more than 80 per cent of the crop has been destroyed. We hope government helps us,” a farmer said.
In Agra, a pillar collapsed in the premises of Taj Mahal due to heavy rainfall. The pillar located on the southern entry gate of the monument fell due to rain on Thursday past midnight.
Rains also brought down the temperature in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana by several notches.
Meanwhile, fresh snowfall was witnessed in areas including Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir and higher areas of Himachal Pradesh including Solang, Lahaul and Spiti.
