Rohtak, September 20:  Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, lodged in Rohtak’s Suneria jail, is the most “disciplined and well-behaved” prisoner, Haryana police said on Tuesday. He follows all the direction given to him by jail authorities and eats the jail food without any ado. The Dera chief is serving 20 years in jail for raping two women in separate incidents at his sect headquarters in Sirsa.

Haryana Director General (Prisons) KP Singh told Indian Express that the high-profile prisoner was getting used to jail life slowly. Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who had Z plus security and used to be surrounded by the elite Black Cat commandos, is now accompanied by three life convicts appointed by the jail administration. These convicts are administration’s most trusted inmates. They remain with the Dera chief every time for his protection in the jail. These convicts report to a police officer.

He is allowed to borrow Rs 5,000 from his family per month to buy personal stuff from the prison canteen. He purchases fruits for his consumption. He has not been given access to newspapers. He sought a copy of Bhagwat Gita recently. His mother gifted him two Dera books, which he reads in his prison cell.

Rahim Rahim is an unskilled worker; hence paid Rs 20 per day for his labour. He tills the soil, grows vegetables and waters plants on a 500-yard patch. He works for five hours a day and takes two pieces of bread and milk before work.
