Reliance Jio 4G: Steps to port your number to Reliance Jio 4G SIM card through MNP

September 1: Unless you’ve been living under a rock since the past few weeks, you must know about the Reliance Jio 4G SIM that was introduced on Thursday by Mukesh Ambani. The superb mobile internet speeds that it promises, combined with the unbelievably low prices, have created quite a buzz in the telecom industry. Mobile internet users in India are also jostling to know more about the magical tariff plans that Reliance is offering. But what do you do if you are a user of some other mobile service provider than Reliance? You switch to a Reliance Jio SIM, as soon as you can! With mobile number portability (MNP) being available in India, customer of any service provider can switch to any other service provider, without much hassle.

The feature is great news for users of other mobile services like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, BSNL, etc, as they can make the switch to Reliance Jio and avail of the preview offers of free and unlimited 4G calls. The switch can be made without the need to change the phone number. We have listed the steps you need to follow, in order to port your number from any other service provider to Reliance Jio:

  1. Send an SMS saying “PORT Mobile Number” to 1900. Make sure the number that you use to send the SMS, is the one that you want to port to Reliance Jio. This SMS will convey your request to port out of your current service provider. Charges as per your current service provider’s tariffs will be applicable on the SMS.
  2. You should recieve an SMS, with a Unique Port Code (UPC). This UPC is valid for a period of 15 days, and is your key to switch your number from your current service provider to Reliance Jio.
  3. Locate a Reliance Digital Store near you, and visit the store, to get the customer application form. Fill out all the necessary details in the given form.
  4. Next, you will have to provide all the important documents like the ID Proof, residential proof, Aadhar/ PAN Card, and passport size photographs. Submit the fully filled form, along with copies of all the required documents and the photographs at the store.
  5. A new SIM card will be given to you. However, as per telecom regulations, you will remain with your current service provider, for the next five days. On the sixth day, you can remove the current SIM card and insert your new Reliance Jio 4G SIM card into your 4G enabled handset.

There is considerable excitement about the introduction of the new 4G SIM, with Ambani expecting to gain as many as 100 million customers with this new venture. People have already started queuing outside Reliance Digital stores to get their hands on the SIM that is fast becoming a rage amongst mobile internet users in India. Reliance has also made the access to the SIM card very easy. After you get your UPC, head over to the nearest store and get your Reliance Jio 4G SIM for free. It’s that simple. You do not need to download the MyJio application on your phone, in order to get your SIM card. The code will provided by your current service provider and your request for the code by following the steps given above. The stores where you can collect the car from are Reliance Digital, Mini store or a Jio partner store.
