Chennai, Dec 7: TTV Dhinakaran, the AIADMK sidelined leader, has been allotted ‘pressure cooker’ as the poll symbol for Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar bye-election (RK Nagar bypoll). Notably, he had demanded ‘hat’ as the symbol but it has been given to another party. RK Nagar bypoll will be conducted on December 21. Dhinakaran filed his nomination papers on Friday and said that he will ‘teach a lession to their opponents’. Speaking about the ‘two-leaves’ symbol, Dhinakaran said, “Whatever symbol we get, we will accept it and teach lesson to our opponents in upcoming RK Nagar by-polls.” (ALSO READ: DMK Announces N Marudhu Ganesh as its Candidate For RK Nagar Bypoll)
On November 24, while addressing party workers in Tiruppur city of Tamil Nadu, Dhinakaran had said,”I will win in RK Nagar bye-election and take back ‘two leaves’ symbol.”
The Tamil Nadu government has declared December 21 as a ‘public holiday’ for the bypoll-bound Radhakrishnan Nagar (R K Nagar).
The RK Nagar Assembly seat fell vacant after the death of then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016. The EC had to earlier cancel the by-election of the constituency on April 12 this year, following allegations of large scale bribing of voters.
The Election Commission had announced the schedule for RK Nagar bypoll on November 24. The poll body had also said the bye-poll for assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh (Pakke Kasang, Likabali), Uttar Pradesh (Sikandra) and West Bengal (Sabang) will be held on the same day. The counting of votes and results would be announced on December 24.
