Jaipur, Apr 5: Actor Salman Khan, who was sentenced to five years of imprisonment in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case today, has been sent to the Jodhpur Central Jail. Salman, 52, had spent five nights in the same jail in 2006. He is in Barrack no 2, where rape convict Asaram Bapu is lodged, reports said. Shambhu Lal Regar, who killed a Muslim labour, Afrazul, in Rajsamand, would give Khan company.

Security has been beefed up at Barrack no 2, which also has gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He had threatened to kill Salman Khan in the Jodhpur Central Jail. Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has been in the jail for over five years for raping a schoolgirl in his ashram in 2013. Asaram allegedly received preferential VIP treatment in prison. The Rajsamand killer Shambhulal Regar recently made a video from the prison.

Salman Khan was found guilty under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 for killing two blackbucks, an endangered species, hunting of which is prohibited by law. The other four co-accused stars — Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu and Neelam — were acquitted of all charges. The incident took place in Kankani village near Jodhpur on October 1-2, 1998, during the shooting of film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

The actor will have to approach the sessions court for bail. If the sentence was less than three years in jail, the actor could have applied for bail in the same court. The trial of the blackbuck poaching case was in progress since the last 19 years and the judge in a court here had reserved the order after the final arguments on March 28. Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha will challenge the acquittal of other actors.
