Salman Khan hit-and-run case: Family of victim Noorullah Shaikh challenge actor’s acquittal in Supreme Court

The widow of Noorulah Shaikh has asked for compensation for the incident in which her husband was crushed under the wheels of car driven by Salman Khan in September 2002.

Mumbai, February 10: Following the acquittal of Salman Khan in 2002 hit-and-run case the family of victim Noorullah Shaikh on Wednesday has filed a fresh plea in Supreme Court, challenging the Bombay High Court’s order in which the actor was acquitted of all charges.

The plea which was accepted by the the Apex Court on Wednesday afternoon and decided to hear the case on February 12.

According to report the plea was filed by victims wife challenging the actor’s acquittal. The widow had also asked for compensation for the incident in which her husband Noorullah Shaikh, was crushed under the wheels of car driven by Salman Khan in September 2002. Noorullah’s son, two daughter’s and his widow work as a daily wage labourers. They live in Malwani area of Mumbai and with the help of an NGO the victims family members were able to file a petition in Supreme Court.

On December 10, 2015 the Bombay High Court had acquitted Salman of all the charges. A month ago Maharashtra government had challenged his acquittal in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile Salman’s lawyer last month had moved to Supreme Court where the actor had asked the court to hear him before ordering on Maharashtra government plea in the case.

In 2002, Salman was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car ran into a bakery at Bandra Band-Stand in Mumbai killing Noorullah Shaikh, who was sleeping on the pavement outside. Three more pavement dweller’s sleeping there were injured in the incident. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against Salman, but later it was dropped by the court.
