Hyderabad, September 12: A 20-year-old Engineering student drowned in Hyderabad’s Majidpur village while clicking a selfie on Monday. The boy, Srinivas Krishna Abhishek, drowned into a water body while clicking a selfie with his female friend with the water as their background. The incident happened in Hanumalkunta at 11 am in the morning. The boy fell down as he was standing at the edge of the isolated water body.

Abhishek, as well as his female friend, didn’t know how to swim. When he fell into the water, she went around asking for help from people, but Abhishek had already drowned. Shamirpet Police Station Sub-Inspector A Naveen Reddy told new agency Press Trust of India, “He was taking photos along with his friend on a mobile phone when the incident occurred. After seeing Abhishek drowning, his friend raised an alarm and some villagers rushed to save him. However, he could not be saved”. (ALSO READ: Man falls from waterfall while taking selfie, dies)

Abhishek and his female friend were the students of engineering at CMR college. As reported by Times of India, they bunked their lectures and came to the water body which is close to their college campus. The expert swimmers failed to find his mobile phone.

“His body has been recovered and sent to a state-run hospital, where a post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow,” said Reddy, who is investigating the case.
