Taking action in favour of the sexual harassment allegations made by an additional district and sessions judge of Gwalior on Madhya Pradesh High Court judge, Chief Justice of India Justice R M Lodha has asked Madhya Pradesh High Court to appoint panel to probe the case.

The issue came out when an additional district and sessions judge resigned and wrote a letter to the CJI and other Supreme Court of India judges complaining that the judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court sexually harassed her. She had said in her complaint that the judge had asked her to “dance to an item song” and influenced her transfer to a remote location. However the accused judge has denied the allegations and said he is willing to face  “death penalty” if found guilty.

Earlier the CJI asked Madhya Pradesh High Court to give its report on the allegations and assured that he will take action accordingly. Now Lodha has asked to set up a panel of senior judges to investigate the case.

The cases of sexual harassment in the judicial system are coming out very often. Last time in January a law intern had accused retired Supreme Court judge of sexual misconduct.
