New Delhi, April 7: A Meghalaya police constable was killed and a jail official injured after a speeding Mercedes collided head-on against their motorcycle in Shillong. Meghalaya health and family welfare minister Alexander Hek’s son, Aibansharai Nongsiej, was driving the car, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred at Fourth Furlong Tri-junction. The deceased has been identified as Probat R Marak and jail official is Probin D Sangma.
Police said that Marak, who was riding the pillion, was declared brought dead by doctors and Sangma is in critical condition. The Mercedes car was having a temporary number and Minister Alexander Hek’s son Aibansharai Nongsiej was driving the car.
Police further said that Nongsiej is being examined. A case has also been registered and we have started an investigation into the matter.
A news agency IANS reported that Hek saying he is open to a free and fair investigation into the accident. Meanwhile, police are conducting the investigation and the law will take its own course.
However, police have not detained anyone in this as they are waiting for Sangma statement to be recorded.
