Though nine of Indian Army soldiers died on the spot, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Kopad survived under 25 feet snow at minus 50 degree Celsius for five continuous days. He too passed away on Thursday at 11.45 am.

New Delhi, Feb 10: Securing the international border at the most highest and toughest border in the planet is not an easy task and our Indian Army soldiers have proved it by protecting the Siachen glaciers. Though the February incident was a sad one when we lost 10 of our soldiers in an avalanche.

Though nine of them died on the spot, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Kopad survived under 25 feet snow at minus 50 degree Celsius for five continuous days. When the rescue team found him at 19,000 feet on Monday, Kopod had already affected with dehydration, hypothermia, hypoxic, hypoglycemic and pneumonia in lungs. Soon, he was airlifted to Army Research & Referral (R&R) Hospital and put under critical medication. But, with multiple organ failure playing its part, India lost one more brave soldiers on Thursday. The national hero Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Kopad was given national salutation in the national capital on Thursday evening. The wreath laying ceremony of the Siachen braveheart was held at Brar Square. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Army General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid tributes to the mortal remains of Hanumanthappa of the 19th Madras Regiment.

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Kopad: Kopad joined Indian Army in 2003 and was deployed in Siachin since august 2015 at 19000 feet. He is survived by wife Mahadevi and 2-yr old daughter Nethra. Basically, he belonged to a farming family in Betadur village in Dharwad district of Karnataka.

Sepoy Mahesha PN: Mahesh was a resident of H D Kote village in Mysuru districty in Karnataka and his mother works with the education department of state.

Sepoy S Mustaq Ahmed: Ahmed was a resident of Parnapalle village in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh

Sepoy Ganeshan G: Sepoy Ganesan was a resident of Chokkathevan Patti village in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.

Nursing Assistant Suryawanshi SV: Suryawanshi belonged to Maskarwadi village in Satara district of Maharashtra.

Lance Naik Sudheesh B: Sudheesh was a resident of Monroethuruth village in Kollam district of Kerala.

Subedar Nagesha TT: Subedar Nagesha TT was a resident of Tejur village in Hassan district of Karnataka.

Sepoy Rama Moorthy N: Sepoy Rama Moorthy N was a resident of Gudisatana Palli  village in Krishna Giri district of Tamil Nadu.

Havaldar Elumalai M: Havildar Elumalai M was a resident of village Dukkam Parai in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu.

Havildar S Kumar: Lance Havildar S Kumar was a resident of Kumanan Thozhu village in Teni Dist of Tamil Nadu.
