New Delhi, February 14: Leaders across the political line wished External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on her birthday and prayed for her long life and good health. The 67-year-old Union Minister has donned many hats and has a rich political experience.

Wishing Swaraj on her birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Birthday wishes to Sushma Swaraj Ji. She has distinguished herself as an outstanding leader. As EAM, she plays a vital role in shaping India’s foreign policy. Her proactive and compassionate nature has endeared her to Indians globally. I pray for her long life and good health.”

The opposition Congress also wished the leader. “We wish Union Minister Sushma Swaraj ji a very Happy Birthday.”

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani and Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah extended their wished to Swaraj.

She is one of the most active ministers on the social media in the Narendra Modi government and has helped many distressed Indians staying abroad.

Her political career began in 1977 when she became MLA from Haryana. She was first elected to Rajya Sabha in 1990 and since then has been a member of Parliament either from Upper House or Lower House. She was first appointed as the Cabinet Minister in 1996 and also held the post of Delhi chief minister for a short stint in 1998. In 2009, she was leader of opposition in Lok Sabha.
