Mumbai, July 17: Saleem Khan, suspected terrorist working for Pakistan based terror outfit was today arrested from the Mumbai International Airport. The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Mumbai Police officials are present at the spot where an investigation is carried out now. The arrest took place on Monday evening.
According to reports, Saleem Khan hails from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and was arrested in a joint operation carried out the UP ATS and Maharashtra ATS. Some reports also claimed that Saleem Khan was wanted in 2008 CRPF firing case that took place in Rampur and since last nine-years he remained absconding. NDTV reported that Saleem Khan had arrived in Mumbai from the Dubai. Some report also claimed that Saleem Khan was involved in the hawala racket and use to work for an ISI agent in Dubai. He first came under the radar of ATS in 2008.
Kausar and Sharif two accused arrested in the 2008 CRPF case reportedly informed police that Saleem Khan also took training with them at Muzzaffarabad terror camp. Intelligence officials had also served him a Look Out Notice to Saleem Khan.
This arrest is followed by a Lashkar-e-Taiba module busted by Jammu and Kashmir police in which the cops arrested two people. Sandeep Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was also questioned last week by the Uttar Pradesh ATS after the arrest.
Officials said that Saleem Khan was caught on the basis of the lookout notice, according to a report in news agency IANS.
UP ADG (Law and Order), Anand Khan also confirmed the arrest. “Saleem Khan is a LeT member. Look out notice was issued earlier. He was deported from UAE after his visa expired,” he said. Meanwhile, the cops are questioning Saleem Khan.
