Tamil Nadu Bandh: Strike leads to Coimbatore, all shops closed in city hitting the normal life of the people.

Tamil Nadu Bandh: DMK-led opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have called for a statewide shutdown or bandh today. During the Tamil Nadu Bandh, the normal life is likely to be affected as the shops, transport services are expected to remain closed or suspended for today on April 5. The day-long Tamil Nadu Bandh has been supported by Karnataka State Regional Transport Corporation (KSRTC), farmers, students, lawyers, traders, trade unions, pharmacists, milk suppliers and others. The bandh has been called demanding the formation of Cauvery Management Board (CMB). We will be updating you live on Tamil Nadu Bandh, stay with us to get instant updates.

Sevices of KSRTC will remain suspended during the Tamil Nadu Bandh as no bus will move from Karnataka to the state in day time. Although the KSRTC has decided that it will not provide bus services in the daytime in Tamil Nadu, it is yet to decide if it will run buses in the evening. “Opposition parties have called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh. We don’t want to take chances as protesters might target vehicles from Karnataka during the protest. We are suspending all morning services” said a KSRTC source.

A source from KSRTC told Deccan Chronicle: “Based on the development, we will take a decision whether to resume the night service or not. If the protest takes a violent turn, we may be forced to cancel the night services too.” Tamil Nadu Omni Bus Owners Association is expected to run only 15 per cent of its fleet in the daytime. There is no confirmation if the Omnibuses will operate in the evening.

Citing assembly polls in Karnataka, the Centre had last week sought more time from the Supreme Court to set up the Cauvery water management board to implement water sharing formula between Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Following the verdict, Tamil Nadu has been urging the Centre to set up the CWMB and Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee to ensure it received its due share of water from the inter-state river.

To support the Tamil Nadu Bandh, the farmers have decided to block trains in different areas of the state. Workers of different parties will block roads, according to the reports. A Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra will be held following the Tamil Nadu Bandh. The rally would see the participation of all party leaders. It will begin from the Cauvery Delta region.
