Chennai, October 11: Over 10 lakh Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers will be benefitted as the state cabinet on Wednesday approved the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations. The pay commission recommendations were approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami. The report on the same was submitted by a high-level committee headed by TS Sridhar, the Times of India reported. Also read: Javadekar Announces Diwali Bonanza For Teachers
“The cabinet gave its nod for the order to be issued,” said a source. With the approval of the order, there will be 20 per cent hike in the salaries of government employees and teachers. (Also read: 8 Lakh Teachers to Get Benefits of Seventh Pay Commission Recommendations)
The state has witnessed a series of agitations by the government employees over the issue in the past few months. The Madras High Court had to intervene and it passed an order staying the protests as they violated service rules. The court even issued a stern warning following which protests were withdrawn.
Liquor prices raised
The cabinet gave its nod to increase the retail price of liquor sold by state-run Tasmac which is expected to help generate Rs 5,000 additionally to the state exchequer. “The prices have to be revised every three years and the cabinet approved the move,” the source said.
