New Delhi, April 19: As the protest by Tamil Nadu farmers continue in the city’s Jantar Mantar, they have found a new way to get the attention of the Government, street drama. In a rather dramatic representation, a man wearing the mask of Prime minister Narendra Modi was seen whipping the farmers, as they begged him to save them. This act on Tuesday is a message to the Government of how the ignorance of the Government and lack of response from the prime minister has affected the farmers.

The protest entered the 37th day but it has still not got the required attention of the Governments. The prime demand of the protestors is the Centre is apathetic to the drought conditions in Tamil Nadu and the Prime minister has not yet met them, even after much protestations.

The farmers in their struggle has tried unconventional ways of getting the attention. They held human skulls in their hands, walked across naked, ate dead rats and snakes and grass, but it seems nothing can grab the attention of the Prime minister, who has not yet commented on the issue.

Many farmers have reportedly also been suffering from health conditions due to the heat. Apart from the demand to waiver loans of banks and finance companies, they have also been asking for a few other things. It includes interlinking of rivers for uninterrupted water supply and pension of Rs. 5,000 for farmers above the age of 60.

The protest at Jantar Mantar consists of farmers from the state of Tamil Nadu, of all ages, stripped to their undergarments, determined to continue the struggle. While their continued protest is a sign of their desperation, the ignorance on the part of the Central government to give the demands a listen at least, in a way questions the Central government’s responsibility towards the country’s agriculturists.
