Chennai, Feb 22: The Madras High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) petition challenging Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E.K. Palaniswami’s trust vote win till Monday. The Madras High Court has asked petitioners to submit video of ruckus that took place in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on the day of trust vote. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday approached the Madras High Court demanding that Palaniswami’s trust vote in the State Assembly be declared null and void. The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice R Mahadeven had posted the petition for hearing today which has now been adjourned till Monday.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)’s Palaniswami won a dramatic floor test on February 18. The opposition parties along with DMK created ruckus in the Tamil Nadu assembly. Stormy scenes were reported from the Assembly during which mikes were uprooted, chairs toppled and sheets of papers torn and hurled around. Earlier on Sunday, DMK appealed to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to nullify the vote of confidence won by Sasikala loyalist E K Palaniswami.

Palaniswami won the trust vote by a 122-11 margin after the eviction of DMK members from the Tamil Nadu Assembly. DMK alleged it was adopted by contravening the rules of the state Assembly. The Governor however, sought a detailed report on the happenings in the state Assembly on the day of trust vote.

The Panneerselvam’s AIADMK faction, the DMK, the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League on Saturday demanded the vote be kept secret but the Speaker ruled against a secret ballot and called for a vote by division. The division vote was taken up after two adjournments following stormy scenes in the Assembly. DMK working president MK Stalin alleged that his shirt was torn off when assembly police forcefully evicted his party MLAs. He had earlier announced that his party would launch a state-wide hunger strike to protest against the illegal trust vote. Former chief minister and leader AIADMK O Panneerselvam also met the Governor and sought rejection of the trust vote.
