New Delhi, Mar 20: Reacting on Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s decision of removing red beacons from vehicles and crackdown of VIP culture in politics, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Monday stated that it is fine to stop traffic and delay flights if a minister is going to his duty. Uma Bharti said that she has objections with the trend started by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Speaking to ANI, the Minister of Water Resources said that, “If a minister is going for his duty, then red beacon and stopping traffic is absolutely fine. Even a flight can get delayed by 5-7 minutes.” Stating the importance of red beacons in vehicles of the ministers, Bharti said that travelling without red beacons will cause more problems for the minister further adding that it may also lead to road accidents.
Justifying the delaying of flights and halt of traffic, Bharti stated that if the flights are not delayed and the minister fails to reach on time, it may cause losses worth crores. “This is totally wrong. This will give increase the risk of accidents. Let me make a couple of points on the trend that was started by Arvind Kejriwal. If any minister is going for his duty, then red beacon and stopping traffic is fine and even a flight can get delayed by 5-7 minutes. The losses often runs in crores if ministers are not able to reach on time for official meetings,” she said.
However, Bharti further said that the ministers must not use red beacons or delay flights if he is going for any personal work. “When the same minister is going to attend, say a wedding, then he should have his red beacons removed,” she said.
Capt. Amarinder Singh after becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab acted on the cabinet decision to end the VIP culture and asked his ministers to remove the red beacons from their vehicles on Saturday. “The red beacons were removed soon after the Amarinder-led cabinet took a decision on the same in its maiden meeting on Saturday,” a spokesperson said.
