New Delhi, April 14: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will take oath tomorrow, April 15, in the presence of Vice-President and Raya Sabha speaker chairman Venkaiah Naidu. Jaitley was not able to take an oath of office after being re-elected to the Rajya Sabha because of the kidney ailment.

Jaitley, who was admitted to the hospital on April 6 evening, did not undergo any transplant and the advice that he has received from his doctors states that he may get better with dialysis and medicines. He was discharged from the AIIMS, Delhi on April 9 after being kept under observation for two days. Due to the risk of infection, doctors had asked him to stay in the controlled environment.

Dialysis is required to cut the build-up of wastes and toxins in the blood, which otherwise can lead to numerous complications and impact the success rate of kidney transplant surgery.

The minister had been working from “controlled environment at home” since the start of the week as he was advised to keep away from public appearances and tours. He has even canceled his visit to London for an annual economic dialogue which was scheduled for next week.

Jaitley underwent a gastric bypass weight loss surgery for diabetes management in 2014. He holds two portfolios – Finance and Corporate Affairs – in the Union Cabinet. He is a senior Minister in the BJP-led government.

Several senior political leaders from different parties wished him a quick recovery
