Lucknow, Apr 11: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday took suo-motu cognizance of the Unnao gangrape case and the custodial death of the alleged rape survivor’s father. The court will hear the case on Thursday, April 12. The High Court has also appointed an amicus curiae in the case. The Supreme Court, too, has agreed to hear a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case. The lawyer has sought a CBI inquiry and compensation for the rape survivor’s family. The apex court will hear the case next week.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) visited the rape survivor’s home today as it carried out investigation into the case. The police said that they will send an interim report to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by this evening. “We have come here to investigate. I will send the interim report to the state govt by this evening. All the angles are being investigated. There is no pressure on the SIT. It is working independently,” ADG Lucknow zone Rajeev Krishna said. “The family will be provided full security. They have a relative in Delhi, now it is their decision if they want to live here in Unnao or in Delhi,” he added.
Meanwhile, new details that have emerged in the case reveal that when the case was first filed by the rape survivor in June 2017, she had not named BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in her complaint. However, another case was filed by her mother in February 2018, in which she had named the BJP MLA. Zee News has accessed documents related to both the complaints.

She also alleged that she was barred from watching television and was also being forced to go to her village. “I appeal to CM Yogi Adityanath to provide me justice. The DM has confined me to a hotel room, they are not even serving me water. I just want the culprit to be punished,” she said.
My husband is innocent: Accused MLA’s wife
Sangeeta Sengar, the wife of accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar has claimed that her husband was being framed. “My husband is innocent. If he is proven guilty, the entire family will give up their lives. The way evidences are being hidden, it is not correct, we want justice,” she said. Sangeeta Sengar also visited the UP DGP today. “There’s political motive behind this. Make my husband & girl (rape victim) undergo narco test. My daughters are traumatised. We’re being mentally harassed. No evidence has been presented yet, still he’s being labelled as rapist,” the MLA’s wife said.
The father of the rape survivor died in police custody on Monday. He was arrested on April 8 after he along with his daughter attempted suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow. The woman has alleged that she was gangraped by Sengar and his accomplices in June 2017.
