Allahabad, Apr 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is the main accused of allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in Unnao, was on Saturday sent to 7-day police custody. In the aftermath of the Unnao rape case, the residents of a colony in the district have pasted posters outside their houses which clearly prohibit BJP leaders.

As reported by news agency ANI, the residents of Shivkuti Colony say that the step has been taken due to the alleged role of BJP workers in increasing number of rapes and crime against women in Uttar Pradesh.

The posters pasted outside every household in the colony reads, “Is mohalle me BJP ke netaon aur karyakartaon ka aana mana hai kyunki yahan mahilayein aur bacchiyan rehti hain (Entry of BJP leaders and workers is prohibited in this colony as women and girls reside here).”

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained Shashi Singh from Lucknow. She is the woman who allegedly took the victim to Kuldeep Singh Sengar on the day of crime.

Earlier, in her complaint to UP Police which is now a part of the CBI FIR, the victim’s mother has alleged that Shashi Singh had lured her daughter and took her to Sengar’s residence where he raped her. She has also alleged that while the MLA was raping her daughter, Shashi Singh stood outside the room as a guard.

The victim and his family members had tried to commit suicide outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The victim’s father was arrested by police on April 5. He died in custody on April 9.

The CBI had registered three FIRs in the case. The first FIR pertains to the alleged rape of the girl in which Sengar and a woman, Shashi Singh, have been named as the accused. The second one pertains to rioting, in which four locals have been booked, and also the alleged killing of the victim’s father in judicial custody. Since the murder charge was added subsequently by the state police, it does not reflect in the CBI FIR. The third case pertains to the allegations against the victim’s father, who was arrested under the Arms Act and put in jail by the police, where he died. According to the post-mortem report, he had suffered serious injuries.

Yogi Adityanath on Unnao Rape Case

Following Kuldeep’s arrest, CM Adityanath said, “Hamari sarkaar iss mudde par kisi prakar ka compromise nahi karegi…. Apradhiyon se bhi…chayey woh koi bhi ho, kitna bhi bada ho (Our government will not compromise on this issue, howsoever big the criminals may be). He also claimed that the government took immediate action in the case. “We formed an SIT (special investigation team) soon as the matter came to our knowledge on April 9. On the basis of the SIT’s report the guilty policemen and doctors were suspended. We also referred the case to the CBI,” he said.

PM Modi on Unnao, Kathua Rape Cases

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday broke his silence over the Unnao and Kathua rape cases saying that crimes against women have shamed the country and the culprits won’t be spared. “It’s an insult to the freedom fighters who gave their lives for the Independence of this country. We are all ashamed as a society, as a country,” he said.
