Three other people have also been arrested in connection with the incident. The deceased man’s daughter had alleged that she was gangraped by Sengar and his accomplices and had also accused the BJP MLA and his accomplices of having beaten up her father.
“Kuldeep Singh (Sengar) isn’t being arrested. I don’t know if his brother is arrested. I demand that they be hanged till death. They’ve made my life miserable. I want justice. They killed my father,” the rape victim said.
The arrests came after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had assured strict action against the culprits. The alleged rape victim’s father died in police custody on Monday, a day after his daughter and other family members attempted suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow. The family of the man alleged that he had been murdered by the BJP MLA and his accomplices inside the police station.
“It is an unfortunate incident. ADG Lucknow has been asked to probe the matter thoroughly. Those at fault, whoever they might be, will not be spared,” Yogi Adityanath had said on Monday. Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh said that a team was formed in Lucknow to investigate the matter in Unnao. He said the jail authority was asked about the circumstances of the victim’s father’s death. He assured action against the guilty.
Meanwhile, the BJP MLA in question, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, said there was no allegation against him. “There is no allegation against me and I’m open to any kind of investigation. Strict action should be taken against the real culprit,” he said. Sengar was summoned by CM Yogi Adityanath.
The woman and her family had attempted suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday. “I was raped. I have been going from pillar to post for one year but no one listened to me. I want all of them arrested otherwise I will kill myself. I had even gone to the CM to no result. When we lodged FIR we were threatened,” she said. The woman alleged that she was raped in June 2017 but all her attempts to seek action against the MLA failed. She also alleged that her father was beaten up by Sengar and his accomplices, who threatened them to take their complaint back.
