New Delhi, April 11: A video of an interview with Unnao rape victim’s father has surfaced where the man clearly accuses BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother Atul for their respective roles in the entire row. The clip, shared by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, opens to policemen laughing and then Devender, still in police custody, tells the interviewer that he was beaten up by Sengar’s brother.
He alleged that Atul and his aides beat him with rifle butts while police stood around as mute spectators. To the interviewer’s question as to why he was being targeted, what grouse did the Sengars have against him, Devender said that they had committed a crime against his daughter.
In the clip, Devender has clearly named Sengar, his brother Atul and his aides. While Atul and his aides were sent to Unnao district jail, Sengar has not been arrested yet.
Earlier in the day, the Allahabad High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the rape allegations followed by the custodial death of the victim’s father. The court also appointed an amicus curiae and directed that the matter be heard on April 12. Meanwhile, the SIT constituted to look into the case visited the victim’s house. The SIT is expected to submit its report later in the day today itself. In another development, it surfaced that the young woman hadn’t named Sengar in her original complaint filed in 2017 and it was her mother who later got the MLA’s name added in her complaint this year. The girl also complained today that she was being kept confined to one room by the administration. Meanwhile, the district administration stressed that there were ample security arrangements for the aggrieved family and they were free to return to their native place if they wished so.
MLA Sengar’s wife, Sangeeta, also spoke out today and insisted her husband was innocent. She said her entire family would end their lives if her husband was proved guilty.
The Supreme Court also agreed to hear the plea of a lawyer demanding compensation for Devender’s family.
