New Delhi, Apr 15: Karnataka Congress working President Dinesh Gundu Rao attacked Yogi Adityanath over Unnao rape case saying that he is unfit to be the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to news agency ANI, Rao said that Adityanath is a disgrace to the Indian politics and if he had “any decency he would have resigned”. “Mr. Adityanath is a disgrace to Indian politics, he is unfit to be CM of Uttar Pradesh, if he had any decency he would have resigned by now,” he said.
Rao on Saturday took to Twitter and slammed the Yogi Adityanath government in a series of tweets. “UP CM Adityanath has totally failed his people. A victim of rape found no justice, she lost her father due to inhuman treatment by UP Govt & the CM who calls himself Yogi was trying to protect the accused BJP MLA. It’s not
#RamRajya but #RavanRajya under #BhogiAdityanath,” he wrote in a tweet.
The main accused in the Unnao rape case, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, was sent to seven-day police custody. He was produced before a Lucknow court on Saturday. Earlier on Saturday, he had said that he has faith in the judiciary. Confirming the development, the BJP MLA’s lawyer said, “We support fair investigation. He has been sent to 7-day CBI custody.”
Kuldeep Sengar was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in Unnao. The development came a few hours after the Uttar Pradesh government handed over the Unnao rape case to the CBI. The UP Police had refused to arrest the MLA despite serious charges against him, saying the case had been handed over the agency and it was for them to decide on his arrest.
The victim had tried to commit suicide outside the Lucknow residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The victim’s father was arrested by police on April 5. He died in custody on April 9. A video clip of the victim’s father that went viral on social media has him claiming that Sengar’s brother thrashed him while the police officers watched. He died on April 9 in police custody.
