Lucknow, Mar 14: The counting of votes is underway for Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha bye-elections 2018 and Bihar Lok Sabha and Assembly Bye-elections 2018. According to the trends in the first couple of hours, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on three out of the five seats that went to polls in the two states. The BJP is leading in Gorakhpur of UP and Araria and Bhabhua of Bihar. The Samajwadi Party is leading on Phulpur seat of UP while RJD is ahead in Jehanabad of Bihar. In Uttar Pradesh, both Gorakhpur and Phulpur were BJP seats. While Gorakhpur was UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s bastion, Phulpur was Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya’s seat. (Live updates on UP Bypoll results) On the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s Upendra Shukla is leading by over 3,000 votes. On the other hand, SP’s Nagendra Patel is leading by over 2,400 votes in Phulpur.
In Bihar, while the RJD was initially leading on the Araria Lok Sabha seat, the BJP soon took over and was leading by over 4,000 votes at around 10:30 am. (Live updates of Bihar bypoll results) BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Singh was leading in Araria Lok Sabha seat by 4203 votes. In Jehanabad, while RJD was leading first, the JDU took over. However, RJD’s Kumar Krishna Mohan has taken lead once again on the Jehanabad assembly seat. The BJP was leading on Bhabua Assembly seat by 2,793 votes.
