Railways announced ex gratia of Rs 3.5 Lakh for those who lost their lives and Rs.50 thousand for seriously injured and ex gratia of Rs 25,000 for people who received minor injuries in the Utkal Express derailment.

New Delhi, August 19: 23 people have died and more than 400 injured after Puri Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli near Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening. The accident took place this evening at 5.45 pm after 14 coaches of the train derailed. Railways announced ex gratia of Rs 3.5 Lakh for those who lost their lives and Rs.50 thousand for seriously injured and ex gratia of Rs 25,000 for people who received minor injuries in the accident.

January 22, 2017: Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express 

In this derailment, 27 passengers lost their lives and 36 were injured after nine coaches of the train moving towards Bhubaneshwar derailed near  Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram.

February 20, 2017: Kalindi Express 

The train moving towards Delhi derailed at the Tundla in Uttar Pradesh which is approximately 29 kms from Agra city. This derailment took place after the express train rammed into freight train from behind as both the trains were running on the same track. This resulted in the derailment of three coaches along with the engine.

March 3, 2017: Ujjain train blast

Eight people were killed and two were left seriously injured after a blast took place in Madhya Pradesh near Jabdi station in the  Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train. Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had termed this as a terrorist attack.

March 17, 2017: Train rams into an ambulance in Bengaluru

After a train rammed into an Ambulance at an unmanned crossing at Mannekote-Talaka road near Challakere in Chitradurga district four women were killed. Reports suggest that driver of Ambulance could not judge the speed of the train and he tried to accelerate through the crossing but the train hit the vehicle.

March 30, 2017: Mahakaushal Express derailment

In this derailment, 52 lives were injured as the train delayed in UP near Kulpahar station. The train runs from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi.

April 9, 2017: Goods train gets derailed in West Bengal

The engine of a goods train derailed between Madpur and Jakpur in Howrah-Kharagpur section of South Eastern Railway. There were no casualties in this train services running on this route were affected.

April 15, 2017: Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express

This train derailed near Rampur. Yogi Adityanath had announced Rs 50,000 compensation to those seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to people who received minor injuries. Around 10 people were injured in this incident.
