Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017: PM Modi, Mayawati lambaste Akhilesh Yadav on busy electioneering day – Highlights
Five of the seven phases are over, the remaining two phases are in eastern Uttar Pradesh; the eastern UP was swept by the SP in 2012 while the BJP swept the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
New Delhi, Mar 1: The campaigning for the phase six of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 has begun. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch an intense campaigning in the final leg of the UP polls with six planned rallies before the campaigning for assembly election comes to an end on March 6. Modi will today address two rallies-one at Deoria and the second at Maharajganj. Modi’s last rally will be in Varanasi on March 5. Rahul Gandhi will address two public rallies and Akhilesh Yadav will address seven.
The think tank of PM Modi had initially planned two rallies in each of the BJP’s six districts out of seven but the number of rallies increased over the time. Apparently, the party has decided to use Modi charisma to woo voters for the last two phases. “The number of rallies has increased because of huge public demand. People want to see, hear and interact with the prime minister everywhere,” said BJP spokesperson Chandra Mohan.
The polling for the sixth phase is scheduled on March 4 in 49 Assembly constituencies spread over seven districts of Uttar Pradesh. The seven districts going to polls on March 4 are Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ballia.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi started his party’s campaign for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 from Pichladi Kritpura village in Rudrapur constituency of Deora district. On Sunday, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav took a sharp jibe at Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, saying that people sleep when she delivers her election speeches.
At a campaign rally in Maharajganj before the phase six polling, Akhilesh Yadav said, “You are amused at my speech, but when Mayawati speaks, people are so bored that they fall asleep.” As per the reports, the attack was a part of a continued verbal exchange between the two leaders. Mayawati had also slammed Akhilesh in a recent rally in Deoria. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally at Mau for the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Sunday while Akhilesh Yadav spoke at Maharajganj.
Five of the seven phases are over, the remaining two phases are in eastern Uttar Pradesh; the eastern UP was swept by the SP in 2012 while the BJP swept the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The campaigning for the sixth phase polls will end on Thursday, March 2. The election in the state is being conducted in seven phases for 402 of the 403 assembly seats (election to one seat has been countermanded); voting for phase 7 will conclude on March 8. The results of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be declared on March 11.
