On Friday, violence erupted in Agastyamuni town over a post on Facebook alleging that a 10-year-old Hindu girl was raped by a Muslim man in the town. At least 15 shops owned by Muslim traders were also burnt down by few right-wing groups.  People also gathered at the police station demanding justice for the minor girl.

In this connection, police have arrested two people. Meanwhile, as per The Quint report, Rudraprayag district magistrate has said that video is fake and also appealed people to maintain peace in the district.

DM said that the faces of the young boy and girl in the photograph are not clear. Nor have we have not received any complaint of a rape in Agastyamuni. We are searching for the person who shared this piece of fake news on social media and strict action will be taken against them
