Ahmedabad, Dec 5: The Vyara and Nizar Assembly constituencies in the Tapi district are set to go to polls in the first phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. With two key constituencies, especially for the Congress, the Tapi district will be an interesting one for poll observers to see if the result here turns out to be historic. Here is more about the two Vidhan Sabha seats that lie in the Tapi district in Gujarat:

Vyara Vidhan Sabha Seat

The Vyara Assembly constituency has been a Congress stronghold for years. The BJP has never been in power here. However, this year, the Congress has seen trouble on this seat. Two senior Congress leaders – Director of Sumul Dairy Pravin Gamit and Former Tapi district panchayat president Mavji Chaudhary’s son Vijay Chaudhary – resigned from the party and joined the BJP with their 1,500 supporters in the presence of Amit Shah.

In 2012, Punabhai Dhedabhai Gamit had defeated BJP’s Pratapbhai Babubhai Gamit by about 16,000 votes. Three-time MLA Punabhai is yet again the Congress’s face this election against BJP’s Chaudhari Arvindbhai Rumsibhai. Get the results of Vyara seat here.

Nizar Vidhan Sabha Seat

Nizar has also been a Congress seat mostly, except for a couple of times when BJP ruled here, like 2012. In 2012, BJP’s Kantilalbhai Reshmabhai Gamit had defeated Congress’s Pareshbhai Govindbhai Vasava by about 9,000 votes. This election, BJP has again fielded Kantilalbhai against Congress’s Sunilbhai Ratanjibhai Gamit. Get the results of Nizar seat here.

Gujarat will go to polls in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on December 9 while voting for the second phase will take place on December 14. Counting of votes will take place on December 18 along with results for Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
