Yogi Adityanath effect: Over 100 cops, identified as ‘black sheep’, suspended in Uttar Pradesh
The crackdown on over 100 cops followed directives issued by Uttar Pradesh DGP Javeed Ahmed a few days back to identify the "black sheep" among the policemen.
Lucknow, March 23: In last four days, over 100 policemen has been suspended since the formation of a new government led by Yogi Adityanath, sending a strong message to authorities in Uttar Pradesh. In Lucknow, seven inspectors were suspended and rest of the suspensions were in Ghaziabad, Noida and Meerut. Moments after taking oath as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath had promised to improve law and order situation in Indias most populous state. The Uttar Pradesh cabinet was formed on Sunday, a week after BJP marked landslide victory by winning 312 seats.
The crackdown on over 100 cops followed directives issued by Uttar Pradesh DGP Javeed Ahmed a few days back to identify the “black sheep” among the policemen.
Rahul Shrivastava, PRO, UP Police, was quoted by news agency ANI where he said, “More than 100 policemen, mostly constables, have been suspended as per the directives of the DGP to identify the black sheep and take exemplary action against them.”
The directive was also issued to all the superintendents of police through video conferencing by the state police chief and principal secretary (home) Debashish Panda hours after Adityanath assumed office, PTI reported. On Thursday, Yogi Adityanath surprised policemen at Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station as he carried out an unplanned inspection and had a discussion with senior police officers and tried to understand how the department works. Yogi Adityanath also said that in coming days there will be inspections in all the government departments. Yogi Adityanath also spoke about improving the morale of police and vowed that UP’s law and order would be made robust.
Meanwhile BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy today said Uttar Pradesh would “shine” under the leadership of newly-elected Chief Minister Aditya Nath Yogi.
“Yogi ji is a brave and good leader and Uttar Pradesh will now shine under his leadership,” he said at Sonari Aerodrome here. Swamy was here to attend a function organised to pay tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who were hanged on this day in 1931.
On the much talked about triple talaq issue, the BJP leader said the party would not support such practice as it was in violation of Article 14 (Equality Before Law) of the Constitution. Soon after Aditya Nath was named for the top post of Uttar Pradesh earlier this week, Swami had tweeted, “Aditya Nath Yogi as CM is the best answer to UP people’s prayer for a bright future.
