New Delhi, April 8: Trouble seems to brewing within Ambedkar Mahasabha, days after the Dalit organisation’s president Lalji Prasad ‘Nirmal’ announced to felicitate Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with ‘Dalit Mitra’ award. Claiming that the president had overstepped the boundary of his authority, two founding members of the Mahasabha, Harish Chandra and SR Darapuri, called an annual general meeting to initiate disciplinary action against Nirmal.
Speaking to Times of India, Darapuri, a retired IPS officer said,”There is immense anger among Dalits because of atrocities inflicted on them during Adityanath’s rule. Constituting an award and giving it to Adityanath will only rub salt into their wound.”
On the other hand, Harish Chandra termed Nirmal’s decision ‘arbitrary’ and said that Nirmal didn’t discuss it with the founding members.
However, Nirmal refuted allegations and defended the decision to confer the ‘Dalit Mitra’ award to Adityanath. He said,”Adityanath was a friend of all the citizens of Uttar Pradesh and hence he was also a “friend of the Dalits”.
