New Delhi, April 4: Two owners of a photo studio in Kozhikode district of Kerala were arrested after a woman filed a complaint against them for allegedly morphing her photos and using them for pornographic purposes. The woman had seen her morphed photos circulating on social media. Owners of Sadayam Shoot & Edit Studio Satheeshan and Dinesh have been jailed but the prime accused, Bibeesh, is on the run.
Informing the state Assembly, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the studio had been sealed and police had recovered many documents and photographs from the premises. As many as 40,000 photos of different women, taken at various weddings in the region, had been found on the hard disk recovered from the studio, reports New Indian Express. The investigating team hadn’t yet figured out if more women were targeted by the miscreants.
Meanwhile, Women Cell Circle Inspector Bhanumathi, who was leading the investigation, said that the accused had undergone preliminary investigation and had confessed to their crime. She said more details would be revealed only after detailed investigation. The arrested men were produced in court and had been remanded in judicial custody.
In India, watching or possessing pornographic material is legal but production, publication or even distribution of such material is illegal and if proved, can lead to a jail sentence of up to seven years. Recently, the CBI had busted a multi-national child pornography racket following raids in multiple cities. A case had been registered against five admins of a WhatsApp group as well.
