Quetta, Aug 12: At least 15 were killed and 32 injured in a blast in Quetta‘s high-security neighbourhood on Saturday night. The injured victims were rushed to the nearby hospitals. Most of the deceased were security personnel, Samaa TV reported.

The explosion occurred in the Pishun Stop locality of the city, which remains busy on weekend due to high number of restaurants and shops. The area is also considered to be comparatively well secured, due to the presence of Balochistan assembly, Chief Minister House, Governor House and Balochistan High Court in the vicinity.

The area was cordoned off following the blast, with a high-level search operation being initiated.

According to eyewitness, cited by reports, one of the vehicles exploded at Pishun Stop, which led to fire erupting in other vehicles passed side-by-side. While 12 people were reported to have died on the spot, dozens were left wounded.

Local hospitals have been tasked to work on emergency mode, making adequate arrangements to treat the patients. Local channels said the number of casualties could further rise as some of the victims were rushed to hospitals in extremely critical condition.

Police was yet to clarify the reason behind the explosion, by the time this report was first published. However, sources cited by local news channels, claimed that the attack was a terror operation executed by the insurgent outfits targeting the vehicle of security personnel.
