Dhaka terror attack LIVE news update: Rescue operation over, 6 terrorists killed

Dhaka, July 2: Security forces in Bangladesh on early morning of Saturday stormed a Dhaka restaurant where ISIS terrorists have held several hostage. According to local media, Bangladeshi Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have begun the offensive at the restaurant to free the hostages. Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of RAB, confirmed that several people including a foreigner have been rescued and taken to the hospital.

Loud noises like bombs exploding were heard when the RAB team stormed the restaurant in the diplomatic quarter of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. The rescue operation is still under-way and more than 100 commandos have surrounded the cafe. The total number of hostages still remains uncertain. Five of the hostages are Japanese, according to a driver who dropped them at the restaurant. Italian ambassador to Bangladesh, Mario Palmer, said seven of his countrymen are being held captive. ISIS claimed the responsibility of the attack and announced it on group affiliated wire Amaq Agency. 8-9 ISIS terrorists barged into the Holey Artisan Bakery on Friday night and held several hostage. At least 21 people have been killed and 40 wounded by the ISIS gunmen. Two employees of the restaurant were detained for questioning. A kitchen staff of the restaurant, who managed to escape, said several armed men entered the restaurant around 8:45 PM and took the chief chef hostage.
