Washington, Sept 15: United States President Donald Trump condemned the terror attack in London on Friday, calling it a cowardly act. Trump said the perpetrator of the attack should be subjected to severe punishment, in order to deter such acts of extremism. Using the pretext of the terror assault, Trump advocated for a ‘tougher travel ban’ in US.
“The travel ban into the United States should be far larger, tougher and more specific-but stupidly, that would not be politically correct,” Trump said on Twitter.
The travel ban was imposed by his regime in January this year, banning the entry of Muslim travellers from six Islamic nations.
Earlier in the day, a blast was carried out by suspected terrorists in a tube train at London’s Parsons Green Underground Metro Station. As per reports so far, 22 passengers were injured in the attack. A top police source, while speaking Sky News, said the device “did not fully detonate”, else the blast would had been fatal.
Trump, while condemning the attack on Twitter, said the internet is responsible for radicalisation of potential extremists. “Loser terrorists must be dealt with in a much tougher manner. The internet is their main recruitment tool which we must cut off & use better,” he said on social media.
He further appealed the international community and law enforcement agencies to act ‘pro-actively’ for countering terror. “These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive,” the President remarked.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May expressed disappointment over the attack, saying her government stands with the victims and their families. She also appealed the country to unite and jointly combat the forces spreading terror. May also chaired an emergency meeting to review the security challenges and lapses which led to the attack.
