Donald Trump To Remove Steve Bannon as White House Chief Strategist: Reports
The decision on his ouster came following the internal review conducted by Chief of Staff John Kelly, reported the New York Times.
Washington, Aug 18: United States President Donald Trump is set to remove Steve Bannon as the Chief Strategist of the White House, reports claimed on Friday.
Bannon was reportedly being considered to be axed from the White House over a period of time. The decision on his ouster came following the internal review conducted by Chief of Staff John Kelly, reported the New York Times.
Speculations of him being replaced turned rife following his recent interview with the American Prospect, when Bannon defied the stand adopted by President Trump over the ongoing row with North Korea. “Military option is no solution,” Bannon remarked, in the aftermath of Trump claiming that “US is locked and loaded” to strike Pyongyang.
The White House officials, according to US media, have indicated the firing of Bannon. “It is a only a matter of ‘when’, rather than ‘if’,” a top official was reported as saying by ABC News.
According to the NYT, Bannon was indicated about the administration’s decision to remove him. He submitted his resignation on August 7, the publication reported, stating that his ouster was delayed due to the riots which broke out in Charlottesville following the white nationalist rally.
Bannon’s departure may appear “turbulent” to the media, but it would be “rather smooth”, an official told Axion, citing the lacklustre role being played by him in the Trump administration.
Bannon, a former media executive, was picked by Trump following the influential role played by him in the 2016 US Presidential elections. However, the Republican moderates continued to maintain pressure on Trump following his appointment.
His performance, as per detractors, has been less than satisfactory in the White House. On being asked by reporters last Tuesday about the allegations of incompetence being levelled against Bannon by his party members, Trump told reporters in New York, “We’ll see what happens with Mr. Bannon.”
Bannon’s resignation comes shortly after Trump removed Reince Priebus as the White House Chief of Staff. In his place, retired general John Kelly was appointed on July 28. Subsequently, White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci on July 31, within 10 days after his elevation. Earlier in the past month, White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned, marking his dissent over Scaramucci’s appointment as the communications chief.
