Washington, Apr 11: Even as the US, UK and France mull over a military response to the alleged chemical attack carried out by the Syrian regime, the United States President Donald Trump sent out a clear warning to Russia, saying “missiles will be coming.” The United States President also said that Russia shouldn’t be partners with a “Gas Killing Animal.”
“Russia (sic) vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, Trump said relations with Russia were worse than in the cold war. “Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?” he wrote.
Russia responded with another warning. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the country hoped that all sides would avoid steps that could destabilise the already fragile situation in the war-torn country. Russia’s foreign ministry said “smart rockets” should be used against terrorists, not against the legitimate government of Syria.
Russia has urged the US to avoid any military action and that the country will bear responsibility for any “illegal military adventure” it carries out.
The alleged chemical attack was carried out in Douma, killing 40-70 people. The western allies are considering the option of military strikes on the alleged chemical weapons installations of the Syrian government.
