Istanbul airport attack: No Indians in casualties so far; MEA tweets emergency numbers for Indians in Turkey
Vikas Swarup has tweeted emergency numbers for Indians looking for help in Turkey.
Istanbul, June 29: Terror attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport has left more than 36 killed and 147 injured. Islamic State is suspected behind the attack in the international terminal in Turkey. The attack occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday. While most killed in the attack are Turkish nationals, there are reports of foreigners who also lost their lives in the bombing.
There are no reports of Indians in the casualties so far. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Vikas Swarup has tweeted emergency numbers for Indians looking for help in Turkey. The consulate is in touch with Istanbul Governorate and Turkish Health Ministry hotline desk. Operations at Ataturk Airport have resumed operations although delay is likely. MEA also said that many flights have been diverted to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport. Delay is expected at the airport also. Turkish Air flights to Delhi and Mumbai departed Istanbul last night as scheduled. Both left Istanbul at around 8pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter condemning the terror attack terming it as inhuman and horrific.
Attack in Istanbul is inhuman & horrific. I condemn it strongly. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly.
