New Mexico, Dec 7: Two students were reportedly killed after a gunman opened fire at a high school in New Mexico. The police have claimed that the attacker has also been eliminated, claims report.
Earlier the reports said that three persons were killed in the shooting at Aztec High School. However, the same was clarified by the New Mexico police later. In the clarification on Twitter, the police said that the shooter was among the deceased.
The state police also added that there were no other reports of injuries.
Meanwhile, the school building has been evacuated and a search operation is being carried out there. Reports say that initially it was not clear as to whether the shooting happened inside the school or not. The authorities also didn’t have any idea about what condition the wounded were in.
The investigation in the case is being carried out by the New Mexico State Police.
Reportedly, the school is located in the Four Corners region near the Navajo Nation, about 180 miles north of Albuquerque.
In a press release, president of the Navajo Nation Russell Begaye said,”It’s tragic when our children are harmed in violent ways especially on school campuses. We express our condolences to those families who have been harmed.”
Meanwhile, the law enforcement officials asked people to “avoid the area” through a post on Facebook.
“Aztec High School is locked down and being evacuated. Please avoid the area. Parents can stage at 516 and Mesa Verde near the church to pick up their kids. We will update this as we learn more,” the post said.
