Islamabad, Sept 23: The Pakistan Navy on Saturday conducted a live weapon firing exercise in the Arabian Sea. The forces also successfully launched the air-to-surface anti-ship missile, which struck the targets with pin-point accuracy.

The anti-ship missile, a Sea King helicopter, demonstrated the strength of Pakistan Navy’s offshore offensive capabilities, the state-run Radio Pakistan said.

Navy chief Admiral Zakaullah, who was present at the weapon firing exercise, said the anti-ship missile launch was part of the concerted efforts being taken by Pakistan to secure its borders, including maritime territories, from enemies.

Admiral Zakaullah praised his forces, claiming that the weapon firing exercise proved the “combat readiness” of his forces to deal with all possible threats which may emerge in the torrential water boundaries of Pakistan.

“The successful firing by helicopter Sea King is reflective of (the) high state of readiness and professionalism of (the) Pakistan Navy fleet,” he was quoted as saying the Pakistani media.

Zakaullah also expressed his satisfaction at the readiness of the fleet and said his force is committed to ensuring Pakistan’s “seaward defence and safeguard maritime interests at all costs”.

The live-fire exercise comes a couple of days after Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told the United Nations General Assembly that his nation faces a “threat from India”. The remarks were made by him in justification to Islamabad maintaining its nuclear arsenal.

While speaking to CNN, Abbasi went on to claim that his nation faces an “existential threat from India” – a remark which the country’s powerful intelligence agency ISI continues to uses as part of its propaganda. The Pakistan PM claimed that under the threat, it is imperative upon Islamabad to spend heavily on military maintenance.
