Washington, Feb 9: With his first press briefing in the White House, Raj Patel on Friday became the first Indian American to represent the United States government to scores of media reporters in James S Brady briefing room. Shah addressed the journalists in absence of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Shah, a Republican Party operative, is a son of immigrant parents.

The issues of immigration indeed dominated the press briefing. Shah, in his briefing, said that Trump administration is committed to ending the diversity lottery visa.  “I think the president wants to see legal immigration reform. He wants to see us move from a process that currently exists in law of extended family chain migration toward merit-based immigration reforms,” added Shah.

However, Shah has also become a shore of eyes of many media critics who have dug cases to malign him. Shah also became a talking point in media circles when he had called President Donald Trump “deplorable”. However, press secretary Sanders extended her support to Shah and called him one of the brightest in Trump administration.

So proud to work with @RajShah45! One of the best and brightest in the administration,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted.
