Strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake hits southern Taiwan; several buildings collapsed

A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan, the US Geological Survey said. The shallow quake struck around 2000 GMT Friday, 25 kilometres south of Yujing, USGS said.

Taipei, Feb 6: A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan, the US Geological Survey said. The shallow quake struck around 2000 GMT Friday, 25 kilometres south of Yujing, USGS said. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive pacific-wide tsunami was not expected. Several buildings have collapsed due to strong tremors and people reportedly trapped in the debris. More details are awaited.

Late night on Friday, A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck close to Kathmandu, shaking much of the capital of Nepal. Around 10 people are reportedly injured Anamnagar area of Kathmandu . Tremors were also felt in parts of Bihar including Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Bettiah, Darbhanga and  Raxaul. An earthquake also struck close to Tokyo, shaking much of the metropolitan region. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, and no tsunami risk. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the 7:41 am (local time) this morning quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.6.
